Swing Kings and Queens
Golf is an extremely difficult yet rewarding sport. It requires multiple skills, such as speed, control, timing, flexibility, power, and accuracy. But above all, golf requires an impressive ability to understand where your body is in space. There is a word for that in science called proprioception, and chiropractors help improve it daily.
Proprioception is the body’s ability to communicate with the brain and tell it where its parts are without looking. So, let’s say you close your eyes and move your arm; technically, you should know where your hand is in space without looking at it. In golf, you need to know where your club is in space, and the only way to understand that is by understanding where both your hands are. With great proprioception, a golfer can tell where the club head is, if it is open or closed, they can tell if their swing path is off, and the important part is they can fix it.
Chiropractic care improves everyone’s proprioceptive ability, including golfers. By taking pressure off of spinal nerves, the brain can better communicate with the rest of the body. Most chiropractic care, in the eyes of the patients, is geared toward helping resolve pain. What most people sometimes don’t realize is that even though McKinley Family Chiropractic is helping you get out of pain, we are also improving your body’s ability to function at a higher level; you just might not notice it.
In the coming weeks, we will discuss multiple topics related to golf. So, whether you’re just picking up the game or have been playing for years, we might provide something new that can help your game. As always, if you have any questions, Dr. McKinley, Dr. Matt, and Dr. Cain love the game and would happily answer them.
