Tackling Torticollis
No, we aren’t talking about the delicious Italian dish. Torticollis is a condition of the neck associated with severe muscle tightness and pain. For some people, this can also cause turning of the head. This condition can be very painful and disorienting because it removes the ability to move the head without pain, but don’t worry—McKinley Family Chiropractic has your back (or neck).
Chiropractic care can make a huge difference for patients with torticollis symptoms. The muscles that are tight in the neck are controlled by the nerves housed within the spinal cord near the area of tightness. Adjustments help remove interference from the nerves of the neck, allowing the musculature in the neck to relax. Patients who present to the office with torticollis will usually see an improvement in symptoms following their first adjustment, but it is important to be consistent with care to make sure the pain doesn’t return.
All of the doctors at McKinley Family Chiropractic have experience treating torticollis and are excited to help your or your loved ones through this painful experience. If you have any questions or maybe you think you are dealing with this please let one of the doctors know the next time you’re in the office!
