Treating Colic with Chiropractic
Babies are chiropractic patients, too. Just like you and me, babies have nervous systems that work overtime to help little ones develop and grow, and just like you and me, sometimes that nervous system needs help. That’s where McKinley Family Chiropractic can help. Chiropractic care has been shown to help infants with a magnitude of conditions naturally. One of the conditions that is treated in the office is colic.
Colic is a condition characterized by excessive, prolonged crying in a baby who appears to be otherwise healthy and well-fed. The exact cause of colic is not completely understood, but it’s thought to be related to the baby’s immature digestive system, sensitivity to gas, or overstimulation. Colic typically begins at about two weeks of age and can last until around three to four months of age. It can be distressing for both the baby and the parents. Usually, babies will show signs of discomfort as well as movements that show they are uncomfortable.
Adjustments of the spine can help calm the nervous system of little ones so their digestive system can function properly. Once their nervous system is functioning optimally parents will see an improvement in symptoms. Very similar to adults, when you treat the cause, the symptoms will resolve. Even though infants can’t tell us what they are feeling they can show us they are uncomfortable. If you ever have any questions about how chiropractic care can help your little one or maybe someone you know, please ask one of the doctors the next time you’re in the office!
