It’s the Little Things…
Often, we find ourselves focusing on the big details in life—what house we live in, what car we drive, our job title, etc. It then becomes very easy to tether our happiness to those details. This makes it difficult to enjoy the smaller things in life between those big events. A small shift from focusing on the big picture to enjoying the little things can greatly impact your overall mood and even your health.
Let’s use yesterday’s solar eclipse as an example. Usually, on a Monday around noon, everyone rushes around, paying no attention to anyone or anything except what they have to accomplish next. However, yesterday at noon, if you looked outside, you would have seen groups of people, some of them strangers, staring up at a phenomenal cosmic event. For one to two hours, no one was focusing on the meetings they had coming up or what they had to cook for dinner. They were focused on the amazing hour they spent with others that was made possible by a pair of $5 glasses.
The small things are important in healthcare as well. At McKinley Family Chiropractic, we often see patients who have had pain for 10+ years. To those individuals, the small things, such as going for a 10-minute walk or picking up their kids, seem like distant goals. For those patients who have been in pain for a long time, the first thing we want them to notice is an improvement in their sleep. Something so simple as resting peacefully for the first time in months makes all the difference to someone who has been in pain for a long time.
For all of our patients, our primary goal is to ensure that we can make those little things more attainable because we know they can make a huge difference in people’s lives.
Why I Predict Sleep Improvements Before They Happen They came in for migraines. Or low back pain. Or sciatica. I tell them their sleep is going to improve in the first week, sometimes within days. They nod politely, maybe a little skeptical, because that’s not why they’re here. Then it happens exactly like I said […]
Why Your Neck Pain Keeps Coming Back I’ve been doing this for 25 years in North Center. When someone walks into my office with neck pain that keeps returning, they’re usually frustrated. Not just because of the pain itself, but because of what it’s preventing them from doing: playing with their kids without wincing, getting […]
