When patients come into our office for the first time, questions relating to cost of care are usually brought up early on in the conversation. So, for todays article we decided to address the question “Is Chiropractic Care Expensive?”. We’ll share results from a study by the Ontario Ministry of Health on the topic. Also, briefly compare the cost of chiropractic care to medical treatment.

What the Studies Found

Studies conducted according to the highest scientific standards, and published by organizations not affiliated in any way with chiropractic institutions or associations, continue to show the clinical appropriateness and effectiveness of chiropractic care. One of the most recent, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health, stated emphatically that:

“On the evidence, particularly the most scientifically valid clinical studies, spinal manipulation applied by chiropractors is shown to be more effective than alternative treatments for low back pain…There would be highly significant cost savings if more management of low back pain was transferred from physician to chiropractors.”

While this particular study was centered around lower back pain, chiropractors have been proven to provide cost effective care for a wide variety of other conditions. To learn more about these other conditions, please see our article “What Conditions Do Chiropractors Treat? Looking Beyond Back Pain….

The Cost: Chiropractic vs. Medical

There are countless scenario’s where medical treatment is required, this article is not meant to compare this type of care to chiropractic. Although we see patients in our office for injuries or symptoms (reactive care), we are discussing cost differences for chiropractic as a preventative care option.

We all have heard about the prescription pill epidemic in America. These pills are typically prescribed to people for long periods of time. Not only do these costs take a toll on your wallet but also on your body and liver. Chiropractic has been proven to provide effective care for a variety of conditions, include high-blood pressure, and help patients get off the prescription medication.

Another topic is surgery. Unfortunately, we often see patients in our office who have gone through unnecessary surgeries that could have been avoided had they chosen to seek alternative care. There is no denying that surgeons perform thousands of necessary surgeries each day but the reality is that many could also be avoided. We encourage you to always seek an alternative option before going through a surgery, not only are they expensive but also very dangerous and hard on your body.

Care Tailored to You

At our office we examine each patient to understand their health needs. We then develop a treatment plan specifically tailored to that patient.

Treatment plans and pricing do vary since they’re specific to each patient. Number of treatments and therapies required to get the patient back to their optimal health play a factor in the pricing.

We understand that each patient has different circumstances. With each treatment plan, we offer different payment options to provide patients with choices and built in discounts depending on how they want to pay. With this it allows our treatment plans to be more affordable to the patient.
