We’re truly blessed to finally get some good weather in the Chicago area :). For this weeks blog the main topic that we’ll will be talking about is “Don’t blame the Tee!!!”. This title might seem weird but we’ll explain in more detail throughout this article.

I Was Bending Down And….

I’m sure that you have experienced, or heard someone that has experienced, an event that has caused pain and discomfort with one slight movement. For example, “I was bending down to pick up my golf tee and threw my back out”, “I was bending down to brush my teeth and could not get back up”, or “I was bending down to tie my shoes and felt an extreme pain in my back” and the list goes on.

Now you should not blame the golf tee nor the toothbrushes in these circumstances because they are not to blame. What you didn’t realize is that your spine had been going bad for some time. At some point your spine had gone out of alignment. This could have been from a slip or fall, or years of sitting for 12 hours a day at work (years of neglect). When your body has been going through a this type of misalignment, it can only withstand a certain amount of pressure being placed on it before finally reaching a breaking point. When reaching this point nerves gets aggravated. I like to call this “poking a bear with a stick”, the visual is a bear sleeping and you take a stick and start poking him in they eye and eventually the bear is going to wake up and become angry.

Maintaining the Spine

We don’t grow up being taught how to maintain our spine, which is a very important part of our body. It holds the most important system in your body…. “The Nervous System”. Without it we would cease to exist.

It’s like having a nice car. You’re driving down the road and all of a sudden the light comes on, which is the cars warning sign for “somethings not right and you need to take care of it”. Now some people will take it in to the mechanic right away, but others will look at the light and think “My car still runs fine… I’m sure its nothing”. It might be fine for a few months, or even a few years, but without fixing the issue you are going to have more problems later on.

This is what a lot of people in our society do with their bodies. People have back pain, headaches, digestive, etc. but they think its

(a) either going to go away or
(b) they think its because they are getting old and that’s what happens when you get old.

These signs are the bodies way of telling you that something is wrong and needs to be addressed. With neglect of these signals you can experience harsher symptoms months or years later.

Why wait for these to get worse and why not get it addressed as soon as possible? Everybody should want to live a life being healthy with no pain or discomfort. You should not feel limited to what you can do because of pain, or headaches etc. This is why it is important to make sure you get your spine checked. Like the car, you need to make sure your spine is in alignment so that you can be a “well oiled machine” and you can function at your optimum level.
