Those who have experienced colic or constipation in newborns know that it’s a major source of frustration. Even more concerning are the health problems with cascading effects for the child. We resolve both in our office, usually within a couple weeks with newborns and infants.
Constipation is the most common reason a newborn will be Rx’d a medication in the first weeks of life. This happens all too often. Most of the time, this step is not needed if the right natural procedures are used with the child. Constipation is more common in infants who are not breastfed but, even in these cases, chiropractic and natural enzymes usually clear it up quickly. If present, this will also take care of the colic.
If your pediatrician says, “it’s just colic, if will pass”…red flag! Don’t wait and suffer for weeks with no sleep. Never resort to Rx first for constipation or colic. Medication should be used as a secondary approach to a non emergency situation.
Parents often come to us with their kids to help ear infections only to ask weeks later if chiropractic may have helped their childs constipation too. Uhmm…yes! This is one of my favorite parts, when people get more results than what they came into the office for!
In fact, just this week we had a 1 year old get his blood pressure medication reduced for the 1st time in his life..Yeah!!! Anyway, his mom also asked, “can this help constipation because he is pooping a lot!”. You get the point :-).
For you analytical type, we help with constipcation and colic by reducing the sympathetic tone, which is generally caused by birth trauma stress (epidural, pitocin, forceps, vacuum, long labor, vaccine reaction, etc…the list goes on).
If corrected early enough, chiropractic can not only reduce the colic and constipation but also significantly reducing other effects, such as childhood allergy and asthma. So mom and dad, start getting sleep again and don’t worry about having to spend the next 10 years at the pediatrician for food sensitivity and asthma.
